Wednesday Wackiness

I don't know if it's the usual midweek shenanigans or what, but there were several wacky individuals that I connected with today.

1. A man singing Christmas songs. Now, normally I would be all over this. But, it feels like it's 4o degrees out. It's June 25 (half Christmas? Is that a thing?). And I just wasn't into it at all.

2. Someone tried to order an iced "upside down caramel macchiato. Which is basically an iced vanilla latte with caramel drizzle. Good try buddy, but I know my way around my coffee shop and I'm definitely ringing it in as an iced vanilla latte with caramel drizzle. And he argued with me about it! There is no such thing as an upside caramel macchiato.

3. A high school couple decided to make out in the lineup and made several customers uncomfortable. I don't care how long you've been dating, it is NOT okay to put your hands down your girlfriends pants in public. It wasn't long before I asked them to leave.

4. One lady argued with me that her MacDonald's gift card would work with our system because  we "both sell coffee so what's the f******* difference?!" Ummm.... No!

5. One of my co-workers was asked to pose in some photographer's personal portfolio. She might have said yes, except that he wanted her to pose nude. Needless to say, he was asked to leave pretty quickly.

6. Someone tried to pray over me, as I "work for a Godless corporation that supports homosexuality". I'm okay with working for a corporation that supports all walks of life regardless of age, sexuality, gender, or religious beliefs.

Not bad for a short 5 hour shift.

Hopefully, I got through all the crazies and there won't be any when I open tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Letter to my grandmother

Dear Nan;

It's coming on summer. You know- those hot, sunny days you always said were perfect for picking berries. I think I'm going to miss picking berries with you.

I watch the sunsets. Every time I see the blue that matches your eyes, I know you are watching. I miss you.

I miss how papery your hands were. They never seemed fragile though. I watched you hull hundreds of pounds of berries, and peel thousands of potatoes. I never thought I'd miss that.

I miss going to the trailer with you. Stocking up on the necessities; which always seem to include bacon and chocolate bars. Remember how you'd get us all tucked in, and then pass out the chocolate? I miss those mornings when you'd get up to start the bacon, but let us stay in the bed all cozy.

I miss watching you make tea. I miss making you tea. Did I ever learn to make it properly? Probably not, but I don't remember you seeming to care.

I remember the day I told you I was moving away. You got a sad look in your eye, but you smiled for me anyway. I'm sorry I didn't come home as often as I could have.

I miss Scrabble games, and orange pop and salt and vinegar chips and holding hands and laughing and going for walks back the lane with you. I miss listening to the clacking of your knitting needles. I miss knitting with you. I miss reading with you. I miss everything.

I miss you.

I miss you a lot.

I love you. I always will.

Insert witty title here

I've been tossing the idea of starting a personal blog for a while. I blog already for several classes at school and while I get my academic point across, I am doubtful that I can cross over to blogging about my real life and still stay focussed.

Thus, this blog will be an experiment. I don't want to be pigeon holed into any one topic, so prepare yourself for some random stories about horrible dates I've been on, cranky customers, my dog, and anything else that I deem important enough to share.

That being said, blogging is a two way street. I welcome any and all comments, replies, questions, quips etc.

So, this is me. Standing on the edge, getting ready to dive in.
